  5. WIRE LOSSES

For each circuit within the plant design, the DC and/or AC resistance is computed based on the conductor properties. See CIRCUIT IMPEDANCE for calculations used. The circuit losses are then computed based on the circuit length and the maximum current flowing through that circuit. The individual circuit losses are then combined into the following loss categories and passed to the SAM energy model:

  • String Wire Loss
  • DC Feeder Wire Loss (Central Inverters Only)
  • LV AC Feeder Wire Loss (String Inverters Only)
  • MV AC Feeder Wire Loss
  • Gen-Tie Line Wire Loss

Note – Because the circuit losses are computed using maximum circuit current, they are conservative and will be slightly larger than the actual circuit losses for the physical plant.
